Our first Thursday tournament of the season started off on a rather wet and gloomy note, but not enough to deter this field of 16 hardy players.

2008 WOMEN'S 18-HOLE TOURNAMENTS

  May 3 : Saturday Opening Day. ABCD “Shamble”. All players drive, pick the best drive, and then everyone plays out from there (play your own ball from that point as in regular golf). Minimum 3 drives per player. No ringers or birdies. PRO SHOP MAKES PAIRINGS.

May 3: Begin new President's Cup Matches

May 8 & 10: Better 9 Holes. Choose your better score: either front 9 or back 9. 50% handicap. Cards do not need to be stroked. Gross and Net scores. FLIGHTED BY PRO SHOP.

May 8 & 10: Spring Trophy Tournament: One tournament for all participants. You may qualify on either day. One winner prize and one runner-up prize. 90% handicap, 36 max handicap. Seedings and dates to be completed will be posted. Beginning May 15 th , all matches are to be completed within one week unless weather conditions dictate otherwise.

May 15 & 17: ABCD Mystery Scramble. The tournament score for the hole is determined by the player's letter (A, B, C or D) on a piece of paper found in the cup. Everyone plays her own ball. Keep birdies and ringers. Gross and Net. PRO SHOP MAKES PAIRINGS.

May 22 & 24: 9 Blind holes. Pro Shop will determine the 9 holes after tee-off. Cards need to be stroked. 50% handicap. Gross and Net. PICK YOUR OWN FOURSOME.

May 28: WEDNESDAY. Invitational with the 9-hole ladies. 9:00 shotgun followed by lunch.

May 29 & 31: T's and F's. For the event, turn in gross and net scores only on those holes that begin with “T” and “F”. (2,3,4,5,10,12,13,14, and 15). CARDS NEED TO BE STROKED. FLIGHTED BY PRO SHOP.

June 5 & 7: “June Day”. 2-Person Liberty Event. Take one score (better ball) on the par 4's and par 5's. Take both persons' scores on par 3's. 100% handicap. Gross and Net scores. CARDS NEED TO BE STROKED. CHOOSE YOUR OWN PARTNER.

June 6: FRIDAY. TRI-CLUB at Chippannee.

June 12 & 14: “ECLECTIC” – DAY 1. This is a 2-day tournament held over 2 consecutive weeks. Low Gross/Low Net. At end of play, turn in your card: it will be given back to you the following week. You can still play if you are unable to participate both weeks: only the one week's score will count. FLIGHTED BY PRO SHOP. 100% handicap. CARDS ARE INDIVIDUAL, AND NEED TO BE STROKED.

June 18: WEDNESDAY. TEA CUP AUCTION. Format TBD. 5:30 shotgun followed by auction and dinner.

June 19 & 21: ECLECTIC – DAY 2. Low Gross/Low Net. Now you are playing “better ball” with your score from last week. Record your score on the line below last week's scores, and circle the better score on that hole. Turn in an 18-hole score of your “better ball” (circled scores). FLIGHTED BY PRO SHOP. 100% handicap.

June 26 & 28: ABCD “CHA-CHA-CHA”. For this event, count 1 par 5, 2 par 4's, and 3 par 3's of the foursome. Keep your own score for posting, and keep a birdie/ringer card. Gross and Net. CARDS NEED TO BE STROKED. PRO SHOP WILL MAKE PAIRINGS.

July 3 & 5: Individual Odd or Even Holes. At end of play, choose your better 9-hole score between either the odd holes or the even holes. Gross and Net. CARDS NEED TO BE STROKED. PICK YOUR OWN FOURSOME.

July 10: THURSDAY. TRI-CLUB at Torrington .

July 10: Scratch 2 from each 9. Discard 2 worst holes from the front 9 and 2 worst holes from back 9. Gross and Net. 75% handicap. CARDS NEED TO BE STROKED. PICK YOUR OWN FOURSOME.

July 12 & 13: Saturday & Sunday TWO-DAY MEMBER/MEMBER. Format TBD. CHOOSE YOUR OWN PARTNER.

July 17: Thursday. MEMBER/GUEST. 8:30 shotgun. 36 max. handicap.

July 19: Saturday. Scratch 2 from each 9. (See July 10 for format)

July 24: 4 Person ABCD Rainbow Ball. One single score will be turned in based upon the combined score using a 3-pack of designated golf balls. Each player must play a designated ball for a complete hole at least 4 times using a PRE-DETERMINED rotation. Each team has a maximum of 3 balls to use. The team that goes the furthest number of holes with the designated ball wins. Gross and Net. CARDS NEED TO BE STROKED. PRO SHOP MAKES PAIRINGS.

July 26: 3-Day Major Member/Guest. No tournament.

July 31: Thursday only. Criss-Cross. Pick your best score from corresponding holes, front or back. Ex. Use 1 st or 10 th , 2 nd or 11 th , to record a 9-hole total. 50% handicap. Gross and Net. FLIGHTED BY THE PRO SHOP.

August 7: Thursday. Mixer with Senior Men. Format TBD.

August 14: Thursday only. Tri-Club at Farmington Woods. 8:30 shotgun.

Also, Low Gross/Low Net. 100% handicap. CARDS NEED TO BE STROKED. MAKE YOUR OWN FOURSOME.

August 21 & 23: ABCD Koppelman 6's. Match play 6's. Play 6 holes with each person in your foursome. Count 1 POINT if you beat the other person. The person with the most points wins for that foursome. CARDS NEED TO BE STROKED. PRO SHOP MAKES PAIRINGS.

August 23 & 24: Rain Date for 2 Day MEMBER/MEMBER.

August 28 & 30: Surprise Partners. Keep gross and net scores on all 18 holes. Your partner will be determined by the Pro Shop after tee-off. Combined 36-hole score. 100% handicap. CARDS NEED TO BE STROKED. FLIGHTED BY THE PRO SHOP.

September 4 & 6: ABCD 2 Best Balls of the Foursome to make best gross and best net. Everyone keeps her gross and net score. 100% handicap. CARDS NEED TO BE STROKED. PRO SHOP MAKES PAIRINGS.

September 11 & 13: Beat The Pro. Player's net score has to be lower than the Pro's gross score. 100% handicap. CARDS NEED TO BE STROKED. CHOOSE YOUR OWN THREESOME .

September 18 & 20: “O.N.E.S.” Turn in gross and net scores on only those holes that begin with “O”, “N”, “E”, and “S”. (Ex. 1, 6, 7, 8, 9, 11, 16, 17, and 18)). CARDS NEED TO BE STROKED. FLIGHTED BY PRO SHOP.

September 25 & 27: 2-Person Par 3's and Par 5's. Keep gross score on all 18 holes. Record the sum of the par 3's and par 5's for your team. Gross and net. Keep a ringer/birdie card. CARDS NEED TO BE STROKED. PICK YOUR OWN PARTNER.

October 2 & 4: “One-Two”. For each hole, take the total of the 1 best gross score, and the 2 best net scores of the foursome. CARDS NEED TO BE STROKED. CHOOSE YOUR OWN FOURSOME.

October 9: “Design 9”. Prior to tee-off, each player circles 2 par 5's, 5 par 4's, and 2 par 3's. The player who has the lowest score on the circled holes wins. Gross and net. CARDS NEED TO BE STROKED. CHOOSE YOUR OWN FOURSOME.

October 11: Saturday. ABCD CLOSING SCRAMBLE.

October 11: Completion of President's Cup matches

October 16: Closing Party/Awards

*** PLEASE NOTE:

Thursday players must sign up by NOON on Tuesday. Tee times will be sent out by the Pro Shop on Wednesday.

Saturday players must sign up by NOON on Thursday. Tee times will be sent out by the Pro Shop on Friday.

If you missed the emails, you can call the Pro Shop to find out your tee time.

You can only sign up maximum of one week in advance of the next week's tournament.

NEW RULE : Please keep your cell phones OFF during tournament play. A 2-stroke penalty will be incurred on that hole for breaking this rule.

 

THE 2008 FARMINGTON WOODS PRESIDENTS CUP

Do not sign up unless you are able to comply with the following schedule:

Three matches must be played by July 31 st , or the team will be dropped from the competition. Final matches must be completed by October 11 th .

In the event a team does not complete all of their matches by Oct. 11, 2008, all previous matches will be voided.

Matches may be played on Thursday and Saturday, but only at the end of the field.

One person will not be allowed to compete against two.

In the event of a temporary green, the players must decide before teeing off how they wish to handle the situation (i.e. try for one, take two or automatic two putt within the circle).

If a particular hole is closed, players will have to replay a hole - #1 is suggested if there are no strokes involved.

Special situations will be addressed by the Farmington Woods Tournament Committee.

THE 2008 FARMINGTON WOODS PRESIDEN'T CUP:

A NEW SUMMER LONG EVENT FOR YOUR ENJOYMENT

This tournament will be a better ball of two partner's event. Teams will be put into flights by handicap and you will play against EVERY TEAM IN THE FLIGHT over the course of the summer. Maximum handicap to be used is 36.

FORMAT:

Better ball of two partners

Pick your own partner

Sign up by May 3 rd .

6 or 7 teams in each flight, depending on how many sign up

If flight has 6-7 teams there will be 3 prizes

If flight has 5 teams 2 prizes

PLAY OF THE TOURNAMENT:

Each team will play every other team in the flight.

Matches are to be played at Farmington Woods only. Either team may call the other to set a date. Time schedule for matches will be posted. Any questions or problems with setting up matches should be directed to the Farmington Woods Tournament Committee.

Better ball of the partners against the other team's better ball.

80% of the difference in handicap from the low player's handicap Example:

Annika is 14, Lorena is 24, difference is 10. Lorena gets 8 shots or 80% of 10.

SCORING:

18 points total in the match

If you win the hole, you get 1 point

If you lose the hole, you get 0 points

If you tie the hole, you get 1/2/ point

At the end of the match, the total points must add to 18, (example, it might be 10-

8, or 9-9).

 

There will be a master sheet posted once everyone signs up where you will post your score. The team with the most total points wins first place, team with second most points wins second etc. If there is a tie, there will be an 18 hole playoff to determine the winner.
